IEBC vice chairperson Juliana Cherera has resigned. Her resignation follows that of Commissioner Justus Nyang’aya from the IEBC commission last Friday.
She has written to President William Ruto notifying him of her resignation from the electoral body. The resignation follows their suspension with the other three IEBC commissioners.
The four IEBC commissioners are accused of gross misconduct and violation of the Constitution with regard to the August 9 presidential elections. The two others are Commissioners Irene Masit and Francis Wanderi.
They were suspended through a Special Gazette Notice and a nine-member tribunal that will be chaired by Justice Aggrey Muchelule was formed to investigate the commissioners’ conduct after disputing the August 9, 2022 presidential election results announced by IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati.
During their suspension, the four commissioners won’t be allowed to perform their duties, but will be paid half of their monthly salaries. The tribunal can recommend the commissioners’ sacking or full reinstatement.
