President Ruto is expected to table his proposals on the creation of the office of the official leader of opposition.
Already a proposal floated by Azimio coalition has been brought forward, however a substantive bill is yet to be tabled on the floor of the house. President Ruto as urged mp’s to rally behind the proposal which according to him will help the minority side to keep the government in check.
Azimio in its proposal want the leader of official opposition be allowed to address parliament annually. And when the president table’s his proposal it is expected to open an avenue for possible negotiations.
This comes even as Raila is expected today to hold his first rally. According to Raila his rally’s are meant to criticize the move by government to kick out the four IEBC commissioners and despite the fact that two of the four commissioners have already resigned Raila says he will still go on with the rally.
However a section of leaders in Kenya kwanza disagree with the president, according to them azimio should make use of its leaders in the house to play the oversight role instead of seeking to amend the constitution to create other offices, They went ahead to say that Kenya as urgent issues like drought, famine and high cost of living and therefore a constitutional bill to create the office of leader of opposition can wait.
