Matatu plying Isiolo-Meru route belonging to MEISO SACCO (KDJ 180C ) has been sprayed with bullets, leaving the driver dead.
The incident happened at Royal Acacia, Maili Tatu in Tigania west whereby suspected Turkana rustlers who were fleeing with a herd of stolen cattle were crossing the road.
They were angered by the Matatu obstructing the stolen animals from crossing the road.
Buuri East police boss Joseph Oduor said that the driver was pronounced dead upon arrival at Isiolo Level Five hospital where he had been rushed by the police following the incident.
Oduor added that a female passenger who was in the vehicle escaped unhurt but shaken by the brutal murder.
He said that the raiders had stolen six herds of cattle and 25 goats belonging to Mr Paul Murithi in Rwathene village, Ruiri Rwarera in Buuri East and fled on foot.
Quick action by police led to the recovery of four of the stolen cattle and all the 25 goats. However, the raiders suspected to be from Isiolo county evaded arrest.
