A benga musician from Sugoi has been detained for pretending to be Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The 22-year-old, whose real name is Collins Kipleting Serem, was apprehended, according to the head of criminal investigation, after a manhunt by the Deputy President’s office.
Collins Kipleting Serem, also known as Rengstar, a benga performer residing in Kamplemur, Sugoi, is alleged to have opened a fictitious account in DP Gachagua’s name and been soliciting donations from Kenyans under the pretense that it was set up to help feed hungry Kenyans.
The Directors of Criminal Investigations (DCI) claim that Serem started a pay bill number associated with a standard chartered bank to solicit payments from his 14K fans. Promising God’s blessings to those who would heed to the appeal.
Serem’s deceitful tactics were discovered by police working for DP Gachagua, who then initiated a manhunt that ended with Serem’s capture.
As he awaits arraignment, Serem will remain in police custody.
