Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has led other leaders in mourning Francis Kiambi popularly known as Matanka.They have crowded at Kiambi’s home in Karen Nairobi to issue their condolences.
They have cursed the cruel death for robbing them such a man. Kiambi has been an iconic entrepreneur and politician in Tharaka Nithi and Meru counties.
“He not only built an impeccable business empire but helped inspire a generation of business people from the region and nation,” Kindiki has said.”We will remember him as an astute business leader whose acumen saw him establish one of the largest manufacturing industries in Kenya employing hundreds directly and impacting thousands.”
Matanka was found dead at his Karen home under unclear circumstances yesterday.
He was nicknamed Matanka after introducing watermelon in Tharaka Nithi.The fruit is known as Matanka in the local language.
In 2017 he unsuccessfully vied for the Senate seat against Kindiki but remained an active opinion leader in the community.
Tharaka MP Gitonga Murugara has led the residents in mourning him,saying that they have lost a great leader.
Politician Muthomi Micheni has said many businessmen looked up to Kiambi.”We all looked up to him and sometimes consulted him here and there as he had many networks across the country.”
