Former Miss Tanzania Wema Sepetu has opened up on what led to her downfall as well as rubbished claims that she exchanged sexual favours for the Miss Tanzania crown which saw her representing the nation in the Miss World finals that were held in Poland back in 2006.
The 30-year-old in an interview with Manara TV admitted at the moment she can’t afford to drive a luxury car at the moment despite her numerous past success.
According to the actress, she strongly maintains running for a political seat was her biggest undoing.Dismissing claims that she squandered her money on extravagance trying to lead an exquisite lifestyle the model revealed that she spent a lot of money to campaign for the Singida MP seat back in 2015.
Wema disclosed she spent over KSh 18 million campaigning for the seat, which she lost, and said it took her back to square one as she had used up her life savings as well as money she’d received as funding from donors.
“If you say I can’t afford to drive luxury cars today because I was extravagant I would disagree. The reason is I can’t is because I ran for a political seat… That is where I spent a lot of money.
“I spent almost KSh 18 million. I had KSh 16 million in my bank account at that time and still approached brands to contribute for me which they did. After losing the seat, I was back to square one. I realized that I had messed up with my money because I was sure I would win, but I lost. That was the beginning of my downfall.” Said the actress.
She however, maintained that the loss didn’t break her. “But I didn’t receive it as a challenge. I took it positively,”Wema added.
On whether it’s true that for a model to be crowned as the winner of a national beauty pageant she has to trade sexual favours, Wema vehemently refuted those claims. Using herself as an example the beauty pageant title holder revealed she was a virgin when she won the title and it was all because she deserved it.
Wema maintained those are just speculations adding she’s never experience such.”I have heard those claims, but I have never been a victim. Even by the time I was crowned Miss Tanzania, I was a virgin.
So how did I bribe the judges with my body, yet I was a virgin? I would say they are speculations. Some people have experienced it. I have never witnessed it, but I have heard of it,” the actress revealed.
